2022 Jeep Gladiator vs. 2022 Toyota Tacoma

A crew cab pickup, the Jeep Gladiator has quickly become one of our favorite models. But we know that it's not the only truck option out there for your consideration, which is why we've compared it next to the Toyota Tacoma for you here. Read on to learn more.

Style and Personalization

Taking its styling cues from the legendary Jeep Wrangler SUV, the Jeep Gladiator is a standout model that includes the former's round headlights, vertical slot front grille, and its one defining characteristic - a convertible, removable roof. In the Jeep Gladiator, the convertible option means it's the only pickup available today that has a removable top, even when compared to the Toyota Tacoma, which doesn't have this feature available.

Power and Performance

The power and performance of Jeep brand vehicles is legendary, and the Gladiator continues the tradition, with a standard 3.6-liter V6 powertrain that produces 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the Toyota Tacoma starts off with a gas four-cylinder engine, producing just 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque out of the gate. The Tacoma does have a V6 optional upgrade, but it also has a lower output than our Jeep brand model, at just 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque.

Standard Four-Wheel Drive and Off-Road Prowess

Jeep brand vehicles are renowned for the capability to handle adventures on, and off, the beaten path, and the Jeep Gladiator is no exception. This model with its style of a pickup truck also has the heart of a legendary Jeep brand SUV. Every trim comes with the carmaker's signature off-roading capability and with standard four-wheel drive. Meanwhile, the Toyota Tacoma comes with standard rear-wheel drive, part-time four-wheel drive is available on select trims, and not every Tacoma is geared for life on the trail.

Diesel Powertrain Option

Love the efficiency and boost of power you can get with a diesel engine? In addition to its more-powerful gas engine, discussed above, the Jeep Gladiator also has something the Toyota Tacoma doesn't- the possibility of upgrading your power with an optional diesel V6 that produces 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. Comparatively, the Tacoma has two gas-powered systems available that you can choose from, with no diesel powertrain available.

Towing and Utility

Whether it's a small boat or a small camper, when your adventures require the boost of a nice towing capacity, the Jeep Gladiator is there to help, with a maximum towing capacity of 7,650 pounds. By comparison, the Toyota Tacoma also has a useful towing ability, although with a maximum capacity of 6,800 pounds, is not quite as capable as our Jeep brand pickup.

Interior Space and Comfort

Every Jeep Gladiator comes with a four-door crew cab style that includes two spacious rows of seating. The Toyota Tacoma, on the other hand, is slightly smaller. It has a backseat and four doors available with its crew cab option, which is calls the Double Cab, but its interior is smaller and cramped compared to the Gladiator. In fact, you can expect a much tighter ride inside the Tacoma, with less headroom and more than six inches less backseat legroom than the Gladiator.
